The
1st clip shows the female eating a caterpillar. This was filmed
on a day when the woods were dripping with caterpillars and one
managed to find its way into the nest. The female held it in its
bill for over 2 minutes before devouring it. The 2nd clip shows
the female returning to the nest. Note the instinctive shuffling
motion it makes as it settles on the eggs. The next 2 clips show
the female turning the eggs. |

These clips show a pair of Blackcaps feeding
3 nestlings. The clip on the left shows the female and male feeding
the young in quick succession.
While filming this nest I watched a 2nd
female fly from a patch of Brambles and join a male in a nearby
Yew tree. When I checked it out later I found a nest
containing 5 eggs a mere 35 meters from this nest
